Every Saturday, a group of romance authors share sexy snippets from their published works or works-in-progress. To read some more My Sexy Saturday posts, click here. Today’s post comes from my October 9, 2015 release, GREEK GOD (Navy SEALs of Valor 4). This book delivers all the hotness and excitement of the previous SEALs of Valor books, bringing all the characters together for a spectacular event!
First, here’s the blurb:
Meet Greek God number one, Darryl Jennings. He’s a Petty Officer First Class with DEVGRU. Greek God number two, Nathan Brooks has retired from the Navy, but still works as an operative for the U.S. Department of State. And last, but certainly not least (the man’s serious eye candy), there’s Greek God number three and SEAL Team member Karl Patterson. The three rendezvous on the Greek Island of Lefkada; not for a mission, not for routine rest and relaxation, but for a wedding.
CIA agent Olivia Simpson, former Air Force pilot Baylee Stiles and broadcast journalist, Jamie Phillips are also headed for this idyllic island on the Ionian Sea. One of these ladies is a bride-to-be. One suffers from a broken heart. And the other woman is about to be targeted by a band of pissed-off Muslim Alliance terrorists.
(Reading the previous books in this series might heighten your enjoyment of Greek God, but sufficient background on each character is provided to make this a satisfying stand-alone read)
In this snippet, Jamie Phillips longs for a love she has lost. She’s flown to Greece to attend a Navy SEAL wedding, afraid of the pain she will suffer when she sees the man she can’t cleanse from her heart.
Jamie Phillips stood in front of the painted tile countertop in the Nikiana Hotel lobby. Her ankles crossed, she tucked an unruly lock of hair behind her ear and fidgeted with her passport while she waited for her room key.
She stared at the desk attendant’s back as she reached into a wooden cubby to pick up a key. It was better to notice the dress’s watermelon color and the way the slightly bunched up straps dipped into a u-shape instead of allowing her gaze to wander back to the window.
So what if the hotel is perched high on a cliff and overlooks the Ionian Sea. So what if the water is such a rich, deep sapphire, it looks too post-card beautiful to be real. So what people say the water’s cool, refreshing, and crystal clear and jumping in would probably make me instantly feel more alive. I won’t look out that window again. I won’t rush out to take a dip in the sea. I won’t allow myself to fall for this place. Immersing her senses in the romance of the Greek Islands would only intensify her longing.
The front door opened, ushering in a hot arid breeze and the aroma of jasmine and roses. Jamie defiantly breathed through her mouth. She wouldn’t inhale a nose full of that fragrant, sweet scent that brought back memories of Luxembourg Park and Paris in springtime. She wouldn’t let her thoughts linger on the love affair that had blossomed there.
She vowed not to be moved one iota by the colorful hand-painted tiles that made the floor under her feet look like a work of art or the tall decorative palms spilling out of enormous glazed pots that set an exotic, tropical vacation mood. This Greek island wasn’t an idyllic piece of paradise. It was a metal-barred prison holding her hostage to old feelings better forgotten. She longed to curl up on her well-worn couch in her Paris apartment to watch a spy movie or read a book, to hole up in a place she felt safe rather than vulnerable and out-of-sorts.
She whispered Karl’s name under her breath as a rush of nostalgia washed over her. Our love affair was such a crazy, out-of-control whirlwind.
Her nerve endings tingled as if an electric current ran through her bloodstream. Her nipples hardened as an image of her former lover naked flashed in front of her face. Sweat glistening on the contours of his wide jaw, the firm ridges of his chest, and on his tight muscular thighs. Her pulse raced as she recalled the sensual pleasures they’d shared.
