Every Saturday, a group of romance authors share sexy snippets from their published works or works-in-progress. To read some more My Sexy Saturday posts, click here. My post today comes from my NEW RELEASE, French Kiss (Navy SEALs of Valor 3).
First, some eye candy for you. Meet Navy SEAL Karl Patterson. He’s the big hero of this latest Navy SEALs of Valor installment. Thanks, Anya Kelleye, for creating this super hot cover!
First for the blurb…
Karl Patterson and seven other SEAL Team Six men are deployed to Paris to raid a Le Marais duplex believed to be a terrorist hideout. Finding it abandoned and rigged with explosives, the sailors barely escape. After they return to their hotel anticipating a night of rest and awake to an explosion and raging inferno, Karl and his teammates realize they are one step behind the Red Queen. Not only is she still alive; she’s also hell-bent on vengeance and plans to unleash terror the city won’t soon forget.
Journalist Jamie Phillips awakes to the sound of an explosion and rushes to the window in time to see the perpetrators fleeing from the blackened skeleton of their van. Rushing to escape engulfing flames, she nearly succumbs to the overpowering smoke and falling debris, but is suddenly rescued by a drop-dead gorgeous man she suspects is Special Forces.
Attraction between Karl and Jamie burns hotter than the flames consuming the du Luxembourg hotel. Karl struggles to wipe Jamie from his mind and refocus on the Team’s mission. But heading to the hospital and forgetting Karl aren’t part of Jamie’s plan. Thanks to her keen journalist observational skills, she picked up on key information that just might help SEAL Team Six stop the terrorists.
And now (drum roll please)… Today’s post
Karl Patterson just rescued Jamie Phillips from a raging inferno that erupted in a Paris hotel and now that the stress of the rescue is over, he’s noticing how attractive she is…
As he sprinted from the burning building, gasping for bites of smoke-free air, Karl gazed down at the fragile parcel in his arms. Her eyes were closed and her lips had fallen open like she slept. What remained of Jamie’s fire-singed flannel pajamas were decorated with travel stamps and names of foreign cities. Had she visited London, Rome, and Vienna? At least Paris hadn’t been her final destination.
He brushed a strand of strawberry blond hair away from her face, studying her pale, freckled cheeks and pointed chin. Despite the fact that her face and arms were blackened with ash, a quick visual examination suggested she hadn’t suffered any severe burns. He glanced around. Hundreds of curious bystanders had gathered across the street in Luxembourg Park where they were restrained from getting closer by barriers erected by the police. Police cars, fire brigade trucks, media vans—even a bomb squad van—lined the street. Police wearing flak jackets and protective masks perused the area, communicating with each other by radio.
Karl strode toward the ambulance where he’d left the boy and the woman minutes earlier. I’ll leave Jamie with the paramedics and be on my way. The thought of letting her go made him jerk to a stop. He stared at her beautiful face for a few more seconds not wanting to forget a single detail. The sprinkle of light-brown freckles on her cheeks and nose. Her delicate pointed chin.
You need to find your team, not gape at this woman you don’t even know.
The sight of her drew every ounce of air from his lungs.
I can’t help it.
Keeping his arm tucked under her body, he brushed his hand over her cheek, noticing it felt even softer than it appeared. Like velvet might feel under the pads of his fingers. He imagined touching the bare flesh under what remained of her pajamas.
